Welcome House is always looking for individuals who are willing to donate their time to help us in our mission of ending homelessness.

In 2015, Welcome House was supported by 823 volunteers. Of those individuals, 122 volunteered in direct client-based services and 701 in indirect-administrative services. A total of 4,124 hours of volunteer work came to Welcome House in 2015 and all efforts brought us closer in our ultimate mission.

Listed below are examples of positions that are open within our agency for volunteers. This is not an exclusive list and as always, we are willing to work with you if there is another volunteer opportunity you would be interested in fulfilling. Resource Aid

This volunteer position will assist Welcome House in their resource pantry and basement. The position entails organizing the pantry and basement, helping to move items up and down stairs, unloading items for big donation drop-offs, and other miscellaneous tasks needed to maintain cleanliness, quality, and efficiency of our resource storage areas.

Receptionist

This position will be needed at both our 205 West Pike Street location and the King’s Crossing location (1132 Greenup Street) in Covington. The receptionist volunteer position will require the individual to learn how to operate the phone systems and assist in answering calls, transferring calls to the right staff member/community partner, and taking messages as needed. Additional help with paperwork may also be requested  from this position.

Resource Driver

Everyone loves a good resource drive! The Resource Driver position will be the advocate for Welcome House and our clients by collecting high need items from their networks to donate to Welcome House. The Resource Driver will contact Welcome House with the interest in  conducting a donation drive. Welcome House staff will provide a “wish list” of items needed to the Resource Driver and the Resource Driver will host the drive and schedule a time to drop off the items to Welcome House facilities.  These must be scheduled in advance.

Event Support

As an Event Support volunteer, you will help in preparing, setting up, and facilitating an event. This position will work closely with the Welcome House Development Staff as they prepare for fundraising events throughout the year. The three staple events Welcome House holds are: Mardi Gras, Shower, and Summer Sunday.

Chef de Welcome House

In this position individuals and/or groups will supply meals for Welcome House clients staying in Welcome House housing facilities. The Chef could also work with Welcome House staff to supply food for additional client events.

Class Host

The Class Host will volunteer their time and talent to teach the Welcome House clients specific skills. Don’t know what special skills you have to share? What about knitting? Crafts? Budgeting? The opportunities are endless. Just call us with your ideas and we will help you find the right fit!

The Basketier

Who doesn’t like a good gift basket? This volunteer position will supply Welcome House residents with gift baskets/resource bags centered around a certain theme/holiday. These baskets can include hygiene items, cleaning supplies, non-perishable foods, holiday treats, books; etc.. Speak with a Welcome House representative to determine what basket items would benefit our clients the most at that time.

Grounds Crew

Have a large group and wanting to find a way to help Welcome House? We are always in need of a deep clean – whether it is for our shelter, our office buildings, or even sprucing up our outdoor areas. Grounds Crew timeframes usually range from late March to early October.

The Specialist

This volunteer position is for the person who is looking to get involved and volunteer with a specific idea in mind. If you are well-versed and specialize in a certain area, talk with Welcome House staff and find out if there is a way to put this talent to use. Manage a printing company and want to volunteer design/printing? Own a landscape company and willing to help with our outdoor areas? Child Care Provider

Our clients are constantly working to find employment, attend trainings and meetings, and secure an education. By volunteering as a Child Care Provider, you are helping our clients reach these goals by watching their children as they balance many priorities often times with no support model. Shelter is looking for Child Care Providers Sunday through Thursday 7:30-9:00 PM, and especially Sunday and Wednesday during Shelter house meetings. If interested, please call and we will let you know days and times that are needed.

Admin Extraordinaire

There is always paper work that needs to be completed If you find that organization is your strong suit and you want to get involved with Welcome House, call today to become an Admin Extraordinaire. Shelter is specifically looking for a volunteer in this role bi-weekly on Fridays from 9:30-11:00 AM.

Welcome Bags

Help us welcome our new guests at the Welcome House Shelter and other Welcome House living locations by putting together a welcome bag full of wonderful hygiene goodies.
